Fishing Adventure Story

Justin’s fishing Adventure

Once a simple boy named Justin did not do much of anything. He wanted to find a hobby. Justin always loved to go outside whenever he had a chance to. One day Justin was at the creek in the woods. He saw all the fish in the water, and he wondered if he could catch one. So, he pulled up his jeans and stepped into the creek. His foot hit the water; the fish darted away. He tried to quickly grab one but could not. The fish would always dart away. He was so frustrated he lunged at one like a cat on a mouse, and “Splash!” He fell in the creek! Upset and disappointed he staggered back home.

“What’s wrong Justin?” questioned dad.

“Nothing,” said Justin, as he walked off to his room. After a while Justin came back out, and asked his dad, “How can I catch a fish?”

“Well, first you need a rod. I’ve got one in the attic. “We can go and get it”, said dad.

“Ok, sure! “Justin excitedly replied. They headed up to the attic where they found the rods and tackle and his dad showed him how to rig it up.

Once they rigged up the rods, they headed down to the creek so dad could show him how to fish. Dad also told him how there were different kinds of reels and rods that you can use for different fish, and different water conditions. He made his first cast with a spinning combo. The lure flew through the air and hit the water with a splash. As he was reeling in, he felt a jerk on the line. His dad yelled, “Set the hook Justin!”

As soon as Justin heard him, he yanked back as hard as he could. Once the hook was set, he started battling this five pound monster. The bass was stripping the line from the reel like thread on a spindle. His dad told him to tighten the drag so he could have more control over the fish. Once he had landed the fish on the shore his dad told him how to hold it by the lip. They quickly took a picture and put the fish back in the water.

“Good job, Justin!” said his dad, as gave him a high five. The next day after school Justin and his dad walked down to the creek to practice with the other rods. The part of the creek where they were practicing was an inlet the size of a small pond. They practiced everyday unless it was raining. This continued for three months.

One day Justin wanted to try a new place to fish. His dad thought he was ready so, he showed him his bass boat that had been sitting in the barn under a tarp.

” Wow!” exclaimed Justin.

“Yep, she’s old but she still runs,” remarked dad.

“Can we take it out to the lake?”  Justin asked.

“Well, there is a tournament coming up on Saturday. Do you want to go?” dad asked.

“Yes, that sounds like a fun way to spend a Saturday!” exclaimed Justin.

A few days later, Saturday morning, the big day, Justin was so excited. He felt as if he could run a million laps around his house. His dad and he secured all the rods to the boat and hooked up the trailer and drove off. Once they arrived at the boat ramp they registered and put the boat into the water and drove it to the dock. Justin walked over to the boat and prepared to head out by putting on his life jacket. As they were trying to find their position on the lake to fish, the propeller became entangled in fishing line.

“Oh no. What are we going to do?” exclamed Justin.

“I think we are tangled in fishing line. We need to stop and cut away the line,” dad answered.

Dad struggled to cut the fishing line away from the propeller. Twenty-five minutes had passed, and the tournament had already begun. Finally, he was able to cut it off and they quickly resumed the tournament. Once they had arrived at their fishing spot there was no time to waste! They were catching fish so rapidly 1,2,3,4,5 the bass were almost jumping in the boat! They may not won, but they did their absolute best. They headed back to the boat launch and drove the boat on to the trailer. He told his mom about how many fish he caught. It got late, so he went to bed. As he slept soundly, he dreamed about the next tournament!
